چکیده
J Womens Health Gynecol 2014 | Vol 1: e102 Ovarian cancer is the second most common gynecological malignancy but is, by far, the leading cause of death among gynecological cancers. Most ovarian cancer deaths (about 70%) happened in patients with advanced stage High-Grade Serous Ovarian Carcinomas (HGS-OC). Resistance to chemotherapy and metastasis are the main causes of treatment failure in HGS-OC. Combination treatment with platinum agents and paclitaxel is the standard therapeutic approach. The introduction of anti-angiogenic therapy and PARP-1 inhibitors induced synthetic lethality in HGS-OC with BRCA1/ BRCA2 mutation is the most promising advance in the past 5 years [1,2].

Background: Recently the use of “two tier" grading system in which ovarian serous carcinoma was classified as low-grade or high-grade in comparing to preceding system has improved authority in prognosis and survival. This approach is simplistic, reproducible, and based on biologic evidence. In this study, we reclassified ovarian serous carcinoma by a new two-tier system for grading and then eva...
متن کاملAdvances in Tumor Screening, Imaging, and Avatar Technologies for High-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer
The majority of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma cases are detected in advanced stages when treatment options are limited. Surgery is less effective at eradicating the disease when it is widespread, resulting in high rates of disease relapse and chemoresistance. Current screening techniques are ineffective for early tumor detection and consequently, BRCA mutations carriers, with an increased...
متن کاملNo evidence for PALB2 methylation in high-grade serous ovarian cancer
BACKGROUND High-grade serous ovarian cancers are a distinct histological subtype of ovarian cancer often characterised by a dysfunctional BRCA/Fanconi anaemia (BRCA/FA) pathway, which is critical to the homologous recombination DNA repair machinery. An impaired BRCA/FA pathway sensitises tumours to the treatment with DNA cross-linking agents and to PARP inhibitors. The vast majority of inactiva...

Background and Objective: Each type of cancer has its own histopathological findings that determine the type of treatment regimen and the course of the disease. The present study aimed to histopathologically determine the types of gynecological cancers in patients admitted to Baqiyatallah Hospital over a nine-year period. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted based on h...
متن کاملModeling Platinum Sensitive and Resistant High-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer: Development and Applications of Experimental Systems
High-grade serous ovarian cancer remains the most common sub-type of ovarian cancer and, characterized by high degrees of genomic instability and heterogeneity, is typified by a transition from early response to acquired resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. Conventional models for the study of ovarian cancer have been largely limited to a set of relatively poorly characterized immortalize...
